Traverse three iconic trails across 53 kilometres of Icelandic wilderness, from the black sands of Emstrur through Þórsmörk’s birch valleys to the volcanic heights of Fimmvörðuháls.
Three days of walking through landscapes that rewrite your understanding of wild. This expedition traces a path through the Emstrur trail, the birch-clad valleys of Þórsmörk, and the volcanic heights of Fimmvörðuháls, delivering one of Iceland’s most complete highland experiences.
Your journey begins with an early departure from Reykjavík, heading straight into a stretch of the legendary Laugavegur Trail. Black sand hills give way to glacier-fed rivers and deep-cut canyons as you walk beneath the watchful presence of Mýrdalsjökull and Tindfjallajökull. Evening brings you into the green embrace of Þórsmörk, where mountain huts offer warmth and rest.
Day two belongs to exploration. The hidden trails of Þórsmörk reveal panoramic ridges, ancient birch forests, and glacier-draped peaks that seem to exist outside of time. You move at the pace of discovery, with lunch taken wherever the view compels you to stop.
The final day is the stuff of legend. The Fimmvörðuháls pass threads between two glaciers, past the still-warm craters of Móði and Magni, before descending dramatically to thundering Skógafoss. A celebratory dinner at Midgard Base Camp marks the end of your wilderness crossing before returning to the capital.
This is a demanding trek covering varied terrain across 53 kilometres, designed for experienced hikers who seek raw, unfiltered encounters with the Icelandic highlands.
