Journey across Iceland’s dramatic south coast, from thundering waterfalls to black sand beaches, culminating in a guided walk across the ancient ice of Sólheimajökull glacier.
Where ancient ice meets thundering water, the south coast reveals Iceland at its most elemental. This journey carries you through a landscape sculpted by fire and frost, where every vista feels lifted from saga and stone.
Your day begins with two of Iceland’s most celebrated waterfalls. Seljalandsfoss invites you behind its cascading veil, while Skógafoss commands attention with raw, mist-laden power. From here, the adventure turns toward the dramatic Dyrholaey headland, where coastal cliffs give way to the obsidian shores of Reynisfjara, a black pebble beach framed by basalt sea stacks.
The heart of this expedition awaits at Sólheimajökull, Iceland’s southernmost glacier and an outlet of the mighty Mýrdalsjökull ice cap. A 15 to 20 minute walk across terrain carved over millennia leads you onto ice that reaches 200 meters thick. After a thorough safety briefing and lesson in ice walking techniques, you will traverse crevasses, sink holes and ridges, witnessing firsthand how this frozen giant has retreated over recent decades. Beneath the ice lies Katla, one of Iceland’s most powerful volcanoes.
All glacier equipment is provided, including crampons, helmet and harness. Sturdy hiking boots and warm layered clothing are essential. This adventure welcomes anyone in good health, with a minimum age of 8 years for the glacier walk. No previous experience required.
