Description
In 2021, the Reykjanes Peninsula erupted for the first time in 800 years. After close to a year's break from the Fagradalsfjall volcano eruption, it started again on August 3rd, 2022. The eruption is dormant today but there is still magma right below the surface of the newly formed lava fields in certain places and the scenery makes for an incredible display of raw natural force. Slowly but surely the eruptions completely changed the scenery, filling up valleys with lava and creating a new landscape like no other. Right on the Reykjanes peninsula, just minutes away from the Blue Lagoon, the hike through the lava fields of old to see the newly formed lava fields is a hike through geological history.
The hike takes around 4-6 hours and is about 10-12 km and you will be accompanied by expert guides every step of the way. This is a semi private, small group so you will have the guides full attention as they help you traverse the hike and share some fascinating facts with you along the way. Accommodating bigger groups is no problem, just contact us for details.
An absolute must-see for anyone interested in the raw power of nature and geology, this is a hike to remember and highly recommended.
