Navigate glacial whitewater through ancient canyons in an inflatable kayak, then restore warmth in a traditional sauna. A 3 hour adventure for those who seek the river’s wild embrace.
There is a river born from ancient ice, where glacial waters carve their path through stone and time. This is Hvítá, the White River, and you are about to navigate its wild heart in an inflatable kayak built for two.
Your journey begins just downstream from the legendary Gullfoss Waterfall, where Langjökull glacier feeds these crystalline rapids. For seven kilometres, you will read the river’s moods: the first stretch delivers exhilarating whitewater that demands your full attention, every paddle stroke a conversation with the current. Then the canyon of Brúarhlöð emerges, its ancient walls rising around you in a view reserved only for those who take to the water.
This is not a gentle float. The challenge rating of 3 out of 5 reflects the reality: waves that seemed modest from shore become magnificent walls when you sit at water level. Your kayak may flip. The glacial river may embrace you. Our trained safety team accompanies every moment, and the wetsuit, helmet and life jacket we provide ensure the cold remains a thrill rather than a threat.
The reward for your courage awaits at journey’s end: a hot sauna where you can let the warmth seep into tired muscles while recounting the rapids you conquered. This intimate small group experience accommodates just two per kayak, creating an adventure that feels genuinely yours.
Minimum age 18. Good physical condition required. Previous whitewater experience recommended.
