Ride Icelandic horses through ancient pseudocraters and forested hills on an intimate morning adventure, finishing with warming drinks at a traditional stable.
Saddle up for a journey through landscapes where fire once met earth. This morning ride carries you across the Hólmsheiði hills, through whispering forests and into the otherworldly terrain of Rauðhólar, where 5,200 year old pseudocraters rise like ancient sentinels from the moss covered ground. These bizarre lava formations tell stories of volcanic fury now long quieted, creating a riding trail unlike any other on earth.
Your adventure begins with a gentle introduction to your Icelandic horse, a breed whose lineage stretches back to the Viking Age. Whether you are a first time rider or seasoned in the saddle, these sure footed companions will carry you confidently through this primal landscape. With a maximum of ten riders per group, the experience remains intimate, unhurried and attuned to the rhythm of hooves on ancient ground.
After one and a half to two hours exploring on horseback, return to the warmth of the Viking Horses stable where steaming cups of coffee, tea or rich hot cacao await. Wrap your hands around your mug, share stories with fellow travellers, and let the morning’s magic settle into memory. Riding gear, helmets and weatherproof layers are provided. Simply bring warm clothing suited to the day and a camera to capture the journey.
